Dropi oil is produced in a very gentle way and the idea is based on the old tradition. Low temperatures are used in the process to maintain all the natural properties of this valuable oil, therefore we can consider dropi extra virgin cod liver oil (EVCLO) and RAW food.
Early in the morning fishermen in Bolungarvík bait their fishing lines before they sail out to the fishing grounds on their long liners and jiggers. Later in the day the fishermen return to harbor with their fresh catch. The fish is the cured and the liver removed for oil processing.
Pure and exclusively cold processed cod liver oil
The whole process is shorter than with commercially produced cod liver oil. We use low temperature in the process to maintain all the natural properties of the oil. Our production is dependent on nature, e.g. weather, circumstances at the Ísafjarðardjúp fishing grounds, and fish population.
Quality product
Dropi cod liver oil is of the highest quality as 25% of the oil from Icelandic fish is omega oil. Our quality standards are according to EU directives. The Westfjords are an industrial free zone. Since the very beginning we have worked in close cooperation with Matís, Icelandic Food and Biotech R&D. This quality product is produced according to European standards of Good Manufacturing Practice (HACCP).

The Oil
Dropi’s oil is a pure natural Cod liver oil. The texture has a clear yellow and reddish tone without any cloudy appearance at room temperature. When refrigerated, the oil may become cloudy and thicken, due to the presence of natural stearin. It is important to keep in mind, that Dropi cod liver oil is less processed than regular commercially produced cod liver or fish oil. It is cold processed and therefore classified as virgin oil. The vitamins A & D are in their natural state and may therefore vary between seasons. These vitamins are not added to our oil. Omega-3 and other fatty acids are as pure and natural as intended by nature. Small amounts of Rosemary combined with natural vitamin E are added to preserve this delicate oil.
The Cod Liver
The fishermen bring in the fresh wild cod daily from the clean seas of the North-Atlantic Ocean just outside the Westfjords in north west Iceland where it’s processed immediately at our facility which is located by the harbour at Bolungarvik and few meters from the local fish market..
The Bottle
Our bottles are made of dark brown glass to protect the oil from light. The cap has protective sealing to prevent leaks and spills. Short bottle neck and small opening to make pouring in teaspoon easy as possible.
